Save a Baby’s Life (SaBL) is a course organised by the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS). It is aimed at anyone involved in the care of children under 12 months of age and provides training in basic life support, including CPR, choking and near drowning. The course is one of a number arranged by the RLSS as part of their community outreach scheme, and here in Nottingham we are particularly working closely with the Nottingham branch of the RLSS. It is already delivered across the country by RLSS volunteers and this project aims to complement the work already being done.
The Medsin Save a Baby’s Life project aims to offer the same training as performed by existing RLSS volunteers, but delivered in a more targeted way. This project is lead by students (frequently medical students) who are trained in infant first aid by trainers from the Royal Life Saving Society. Following this training medical students then go into the local community to teach parents and carers these valuable skills. This is done by actively seeking out venues within the community and taking the training to carers of infants and running sessions in venues to suit them. |
